Adding Keys
Once FileAssurity has loaded you use Key Manager (off the Security menu) to add yours and other people's keys to your keystore. You will not be able to protect or sign files until you have done this.
You can add your personal key or create it in FileAssurity. If you have purchased a key from a public authority (CA) you have to import it. You can add as many personal keys as you want. You add your own keys so that you can sign files and protect files that only you can access.
If you want to protect files for other people you need to add their keys.
Protecting / Signing Files & Folders
1. Configure how FileAssurity will deal with files it protects/unprotects in the Default Settings dialog (off the Security menu). By default files are protected/unprotected in the folder they currently reside in when the protection/unprotection takes place, your original files are left on the disk and existing files are not overwritten.
2. Once you have added keys to your keystore they are available in the 'Sign As' and 'Protect For' list boxes on the Toolbar. If you do not want to protect files then leave 'Not selected' displayed as the key in the 'Protect For' list box. If you do not want to sign files then leave 'Not selected' displayed as the key in the 'Sign As' list box. If you want to protect files for multiple recipients then select 'Multiple recipients' as the key. This displays a pop-up box where you can select the names of the people you want to send protected files to.
3. Once you have selected your keys, select the files/folders you want to secure. If you want to put the selected files/folders into a single protected file (rather than being individually protected) then check the 'Archive' box on the Toolbar.
4. Press the button. Your files are now protected/signed using the keys selected in the drop-down list boxes.
